And the Winner Is...

Well...the office is now officially in the upstairs bedroom and the Master is officially in the downstairs bedroom. The downstairs bedroom...despite it's size... won out for the "Master" ...(I still love calling it that...lol) because the attached bath is just too luxurious to give up. So up the stairs went the desk, bookcase, sewing table and of course the boxes of sewing and craft stuff came out of the Family Room! AAAhhh! Though my husband and sons are very tired of moving things. The Vaughan family tradition of furniture twirling is very fun...but can be tiring for those doing the heavy twirling...sorry guys.

Now to the task of putting it all together and making it work while still looking sooo fabulous!!!

Then it's on to doing the bedroom downstairs...

Then the Family room needs a little makeover...

Hold it...that's getting ahead of myself... my girl at the paint store told me to be careful or I would end up repainting the whole house again...I swore I wouldn't...she so knows her stuff!

Focus, Jess...the office!!!

The New "Master Suite"

I love the title of this blog!
Just because it is really so ridiculous!
There is no room in my house that could possibly be truly called a "master suite". They are all just too small...but if I say that it's the "master" then that makes it the "master" ...it's my house and my room...right? The downstairs bedroom does have a bath attached ..a lovely bath, I might add...a little small just like all the rooms in my tiny little home...oh, I've said that haven't I... lol!
I was just inspired by reading The Nester's latest blog..."10 Ways to Avoid Having the Home You'll Love" . Such wise words. The fear of not making things perfect or making a mistake has always prohibited me from tackling the risky things. I mentioned in my last episode of "As the furniture Twirls" that I was going to paint the '90s knotty pine bedroom furniture. With encouragement from my girls, I was brave and ready to commit to doing it...a day later... the fear sets in and all the justifications for not doing it have surfaced ...some are true obstacles ...like where to perform this task...inside the room itself seems like the only space and living with that big of a mess for as long as it takes scares the beegeebees out of me. I hate living in disarray. Probably why I've only painted furniture a few times in my life...and it probably didn't come out as well as it could've because I wanted to be done so I could be rid of the mess. Which leads me to the mess at hand...
If I don't get the boxes of craft and sewing stuff out of the family room I'm going to scream...no one else seems to even notice them...but then again, I live with three men...hah ... of course no one else notices! And I miss my stuff...and my granddaughters want SOCK MONKEYS!!! I've got to lose the perfectionist attitude and just get going on it...( in between life's happenings that is...which would be a completely different blog!) Well...the saga of the New Office and New Master Suite (I still love calling it that!) continues... Stay tuned for the next Episode in "As the Furniture Twirls"

The New Office -"As the Furniture Twirls"

The painting in the upstairs bedroom was put on hold yesterday for a much needed girls day out. And of course, whenever you talk to your girls you always get better insight. They've convinced me to paint the bedroom furniture. I'm a bit skiddish about it because I've only painted furniture a few times and the results were ok...not fabulous...which is what I'm looking for. I started out by asking for the number of a furniture refinisher my friend used and after discussing the cost of having it professionally done or just buying new we came to the conclusion that just going for it and doing it myself is the way to go. It's a little risky cause if I screw it up I'm looking at having to buy new bedroom furniture. Something that sounds really fun... but really expensive!! One thing is for sure, I really want the early 90's country pine look to go bye-bye! So I guess I'm going to go for it. I guess these will probably be the first pictures I post.
In the saga of "As the Furniture Twirls"...as I mentiond the painting of the bedroom walls was put on hold yesterday because of my lunch date and today is in question cause it's hubby's birthday. Making him a pot roast and the standard Strawberry Shortcake birthday cake (Tom's favorite dessert of all time). So the bed is still in the downstairs bedroom (sewing/craft room). This is a good test run to see if we like it down here as opposed to the upstairs bedroom. So far, it's not so bad...if only the sewing and craft stuff wasn't all packed up around the family room down here!!! The room is a little smaller than the upstairs room (they're all small) but it has the attatched bath which the upstairs bedroom does not. It's more luxurious than I imagined. Something both of my sons must have known, because they both have had the room as thier bedroom.
Anyway, if I'm actually going to paint the bedroom furniture then I will be down here a bit longer...who knows we may stay down here and just set up my office upstairs after all...That's the whole point of twirling furniture ...to change where everything is...sooo fun!

Designing My Blog

The trial and error method of getting a nice layout for my new blog has been exhausting!!! Just when I think I'm fairly tech saavy I found I'm absolutely not!!! The templates seem easy enough but now I am totally lost in layout land. This one will do for now. I will get good at this. Determination and perserverance. There is so much to choose from out there and not quite surewhat I'm doing. It's fun to fiddle around with it but not fun when I'm stuck with something I don't like and can't figure out how to change it. I should probably ask someone who knows what they're doing for some help. What a concept!! Well...better get a little nap...got a lunch date with the girls today..Aaahhh...looking forward to some quality girl time!

My New Office

Figuring out where to put my new little office space has been quite a challenge. But then every space in this little tiny home of ours has been a challenge. The rooms are painfully small. We bought the little fixer because the property backs up to my childhood home, where my Mom actually still lives. And fixing is what we have been doing since we got here. Of course we will never be done. And unless we put on a massive addition...space is something we will never have enough of. Anyway, the need for a new office space for me came about when I got a laptop for my birthday last year. I thought that wouldn't require much space and that would leave the desktop for Tom. Wrong, wrong wrong!!! My new laptop has led to a new printer... which has now turned my new laptop into my new desktop!!! The little writing desk in the corner of our tiny little bedroom very quickly became totally inadequate. I have waffled on whether to just move the "master bedroom" to the downstairs bedroom, which was the craft/sewing room, and turn the upstairs bedroom into the office/craft/sewing room or vice versa. I have also come up with a multitude of other moves...what we here at the Vaughan's call "twirling furniture". (A favorite pastime and a Vaughan tradition for many years, dating back to the old townhouse days.) At the moment the bed is in the downstairs bedroom for a test run while I paint the upstairs bedroom. Something I've been meaning to do for almost a year now, anyway. Which room will be the bedroom?...Which room will be the office? I have almost everything I need to make my new little space materialize...so when the paint dries...where will Jessica's office be??!!?? Stay tuned for the next epesode of "As the Furniture Twirls".

Becoming A Blogger

I thought it was time to get down to the serious business of writing. What I will write is not necessarily important, but then again, it may be quite profound. More than likely not. I plan on having some fun with this and I will thoroughly enjoy the learning process and hopefully make some creative connections on the way. So ...welcome to blogger land, Jessie!!
